KCR FM 93.3We are delighted to bring to your notice that KADETFU has finally achieved its long cherished ambition and established a community radio station, the first of its kind in Kagera Region.  It is now ready on air waiting for the official launching after fulfilling all needed requirements by the Regulatory Authority.

As we said in our last publications, Radio is a very useful tool with great impact to the society. Radio disseminates information to all people, literate and illiterate alike, urban and rural population, surrounding and remote areas where it is difficult to be reached due to infrastructure limitations; many people get information at the same time and such service can easily be afforded by most families i.e. most of the families can afford to buy a small radio set.

Foreword by Hon. Prof. Anna Kajumulo TIBAIJUKA

bananaSince late 2000s the majority of communities in Kagera region have been affected by Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW), the banana disease known as “Mnyauko” which has consequently jeopardized assurance of food security and people’s livelihood at both family and community level. In recognition of its threat, last year (2012) the government authorities in Kagera region declared BXW a national disaster which needs immediate interventions. This study is the contribution to the initiatives of the region in trying to raise community awareness on the symptoms, mode of spread and effects of the disease to their livelihoods and sensitization on the measures to curb its spread.

Dear Colleagues,

I am glad to inform you that KADETFU is a winner of two awards that were presented on 28th November 2008 at the Civil Society Ghala that was held at Peal Hotel, Ubungo Plaza.  The "LAKE ZONE CSO EXCELLENCY AWARD" and the "TANZANIA CSO EXCELLENCY AWARD 2008". The criteria examined the CSO's five scenario, "Governance, Transparency, Participatory, Responsiveness and Accountability"

We are glad to announce to the general public that the government of Tanzania has granted KADETFU a construction permit for the long awaited "Kagera Community Radio (KCR FM 93.3MHz)", which is being established at Bukoba Town, Kagera Region in Tanzania.

The idea of the establishment of this Radio Station aims at addressing a felt need in the Community, that is changing the behavior and attitude of the youth and young adults as well as to create awareness on basic societal burning issues such as gender, environmental protection, human and other socio-economic rights, HIV/AIDS, poverty reduction/eradication and the general welfare of the rural poor communities.

The project will therefore serve the purpose of providing a forum for Kagera Region communities. It will provide information, education, news and early warning to the communities within Kagera Region and contribute to promoting the National economy through education programs on economic undertakings as well as contributing to community development.

KADETFU is therefore appealing to local and International radios, the Donor community, Radio Networks, all Development Partners and well-wishers for collaboration, networking and working partnership to grow local audience, through broadcasting on the local people's own development and exchanging programs. KADETFU will be grateful to collaborate with other Global Development Practitioners to make KCR vision a reality.

Dear Colleagues and Partners,

According to the new law (the NGO act 2004), the exisiting organisations have to apply for the Certificate of Compliance (CoC). I am glad to inform you that the Government has granted us a Certificate of Compliance no. 1596 of 13th March 2006 and has consented us to operate in the whole of Tanzania mainland. However, due to that effect, the title of ouir organisation has changed a bit with exclusion of the word "Trust", but the acronym remains the same i.e. "KADETFU".

Therefore the New name of  the Organisation is "KAGERA DEVELOPMENT AND CREDIT REVOLVING FUND" in short "KADETFU". We are glad to obtain the certificate of compliance  but regrets for any inconvenience that might be caused by these changes.

With kind regards

Yusto P. Muchuruza
