THE PROFILE OF KADETFU

Kagera Development and Credit Revolving Fund (KADETFU) is a National Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is based in Kagera region, it is located in Bukoba town, in the North western part of Tanzania.
KADETFU was registered by the government on July 30th, 1993 under the Trustees Incorporation Ordinance cap No 375 of 1956. The registration number is ADG/TI/2058. Under the new NGO act 2004, it has now obtained a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) No. 1596 of 13.3.2006.

The organization has an Executive Board with six Board members. It has 16 employed staff and 93 volunteers known as Field Facilitators/Field workers who link the head office with the community at grassroots level.  It has three foreign Volunteers from abroad.

The objectives of KADETFU

  1. Poverty reduction by reducing income poverty of the communities and ensure food availability and accessibility at household level in urban and rural areas through improving community capacities.
  2. Protecting and advocating for human rights of the poor and vulnerable groups.
  3. Conservation and management of environment through improving natural resources management and reducing loss of biodiversity.
  4. Improving survival, health and well-being of all community members through promoting primary health care; HIV/AIDS control and research.
  5. Improving infrastructure development, i.e. communication systems, roads, school and health facilities
The main focus of KADETFU

KADETFU is striving to realize its vision, Mission and objectives through focusing on MDG 7 (Ensure Environmental sustainability) and its relation to MDG 1 (Eradication of extreme poverty and hunger); the two that are the “crosscutting” to the other goals. KADETFU feels essential to implement these two goals through the scope of sustainable development; promotion of the economy, and protection of environmental quality, and since natural resources conservation is a human right, social equity is paramount. 

KADETFU is undertaking various programmes that aims at enhancing livelihoods of the people in Kagera Region and Tanzania at large.

Under environmental management programmes we are focusing on conserving the Lake Victoria Environment, afforestation, promotion of renewable energy, environmental education and capacity building for fishers and farmers in sustainable development.

Other programmes include; protection, advocacy and education on human rights with a particular focus on women and children’s rights, in finicky; widows and orphans.

We are also promoting Economic Social and Cultural (ESC) rights through poverty reduction programmes in which we provide micro-credits to the community for economic activity base. The Primary Health Care Programme includes environmental sanitation, HIV/AIDS control, and promotion of sustainable agriculture.

Furthermore KADETFU organizes seminars for various community groups, peer based and action oriented for promoting entrepreneurial skills.
